We are back with the fourth session of our reading group, which we started last year.
We’ll discuss what affordances are, why they matter for all organisms, and how this perspective helps us understand the social world as something lived and perceived, not merely represented. Let’s explore how we perceive and interact with others through the lens of ecological psychology!
Main readings:
- J.J. Gibson (1986) – The Theory of Affordances
- McArthur & Baron (1983) – Toward an Ecological Theory of Social Perception
Optional Readings: Distributed cognition, complex systems, and enriched affordance landscapes (for those who wish to go further)
Materials for the fourth reading session can be found in the following drive folder, along with information specifying which pages to read: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZiFHibV0-a0C1Q733SjAADC_xzmeHuXF?usp=drive_link
We look forward to seeing you on November 28, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. in AB2 110A Social Cognition Lab.
Note: This event is open only to Özyeğin University students.
